Dr William B Inabnet III was the keynote speaker at an endocrine surgery course in Barcelona: the 2016 International Debates in Endocrine Surgery. He presented the Mount Sinai experience on remote access endoscopic thyroid surgery, including the transaxillary approach and the robotic bilateral axilla-breast approach (BABA) that has been championed by Dr Hyun Suh at Mount Sinai. Dr Inabnet performed a live demonstration of an endoscopic transaxillary right thyroid lobectomy; of note the patient was a physician. The operation was a success and proved to be highly educational for the 125 Spanish and European surgeons in attendance. We believe that this case was the first endoscopic transaxillary case to be performed in Spain.More
