Dr. Owen’s clinical and research interest center on Head & Neck and Endocrine Surgery. This includes a broad range of entities including thyroid nodules, goiters and cancer, hyperparathyroidism and other diseases of the head and neck.
Consultation in the office is undertaken and includes a detailed interview and physical examination, along with possible sonogram, needle biopsy or fiberoptic laryngoscopy. Surgical procedures employed to cure these conditions include minimally invasive parathyroid surgery under local anesthesia and thyroid surgery performed through the axilla.
Dr. Owen received a B.A. with honors in science and humanities from Seattle Pacific University. He then obtained his M.D. degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Subsequently, he completed a general surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He then completed a Head & Neck surgery fellowship at Montefiore after which he joined the faculty. In 2006 he became the chief of the Head & Neck Division at Montefiore. In 2009 he was recruited to The Mount Sinai Medical Center to join the Division of Metabolic, Endocrine & Minimally Invasive Surgery.
Dr. Owen has a strong interest in medical and other missions. He has overseen a re-housing effort in Haiti since the earthquake in January 2010. Previous mission trips have been to the Philippines, Kenya, Romania, Pakistan and Gabon. Dr. Owen is President of the New York City Council of the Christian Medical and Dental Associations.
